A/C Compressor

Refrigerant Pressure Pump
Cycle Position: Between Evaporator Outlet and Condenser Inlet
Pressure Side: Transition (Low In / High Out)
Refrigerant In: Low-P Cool Vapor (2.0 bar, 0°C)
Refrigerant Out: High-P Superheated Gas (16 bar, 85°C)

Main Function

Compresses low-pressure vapor into high-pressure vapor and circulates refrigerant continuously through the closed refrigeration loop.

Operating Principle

Driven by engine belt via electromagnetic clutch. Reciprocating pistons reduce vapor chamber volume, elevating gas pressure and temperature.

3D Representation Note

Procedural 3D model created using Three.js: includes cast aluminum cylinder body, spinning drive pulley with magnetic clutch hub, and anodized high/low service ports.

Gestura Flow — Refrigerant Cycle Simulation

Follow the closed automotive AC loop: Compressor → Condenser → Expansion Valve (TXV) → Evaporator → Compressor. Observe high/low pressure boundaries, state changes, and heat transfers.

Flow Speed:
LOW-PRESSURE SIDE (1.5 - 2.5 BAR / COLD)
HIGH-PRESSURE SIDE (14 - 18 BAR / HOT)
FIREWALL • TXV BARRIER
STEP 01

1. Compressor

Discharge: Hot Superheated Gas
Low-P In → High-P Out ~16 bar
STEP 02

2. Condenser

Heat Rejected → Liquid Line
Condenses Gas to Liquid ~15 bar
STEP 04

4. Evaporator

Absorbs Cabin Heat → Chills Air
Liquid Boils to Vapor ~2.0 bar
STEP 03

3. Expansion Valve (TXV)

Pressure Drops → Cold Mist
High-P Liquid → Low-P Mist 2.0 bar
Flow Loop: Compressor → Condenser → TXV → Evaporator → Compressor
Stage 1: Vapor Compression High-Pressure Side

Compressor

Refrigerant Entering: Low-Pressure, Cool Vapor (approx. 2.0 bar / 30 psi, 0°C to 5°C)
Refrigerant Leaving: High-Pressure, Hot Superheated Vapor (approx. 16 bar / 230 psi, 80°C to 95°C)
Pressure Change: Dramatic Increase (approx. 2 bar → 16 bar)
Temperature Change: Significant Rise (0°C → ~85°C)
State Transition: Cool Vapor → Hot Superheated Vapor

Main Function

Mechanically compresses low-pressure refrigerant gas into a hot, high-pressure gas to circulate it through the system.

What Happens Here (Simple Terms)

Think of the compressor as the heart of the AC system. It takes in cool gas from inside the car, squeezes it tightly, and pumps it out as very hot, high-pressure gas toward the front of the vehicle.

Did You Know?
If liquid refrigerant enters the compressor instead of vapor, it can bend or shatter the valves instantly—a catastrophic failure known in automotive workshops as "liquid slugging"!
